Translucent alabaster columns
When the Hollywood Hotel and Casino wanted to liven up the look of the concrete structural columns in the lobby, they turned to Stromberg Krystaclear alabaster material. Custom cast in an art deco style, the columns add dramatic light, architectural interest and ambiance to the setting. For this application, the translucent alabaster material is internally lighted with florescent tubes. Other lighting options include LED, incandescent and neon. Shapes are limited only by the designers imagination. Domes, spheres, carved elements and panels are all available in Krystaclear alabaster, onyx or cast glass. Drawings showing the fabrication details of the Krystaclear alabaster columns. The lighted columns were designed for both free standing locations and as surrounds for structural concrete columns. Internal illumination was accomplished with florescent lighting. With all internally lit translucent applications proper design of the piece to avoid shadows and hot spots is critical.
